If this is the digital odometer, it sounds like a resistor on the circuit board is failing. Eventually you will lose odometer visibility altogether. Rebuilt dash units are available which will fix this problem.
Here is the deal. If your odometer has not completly failed yet then keep your brightness illumination level for your instraments turned down about half way. Whats going on is the voltage going through the sets of resistors are to much and overheating the resistors which causes the solder joint and resistor to come apart. If your odometer comes and goes than one of your resistors has not completely come apart/ seperated yet. You do not have to buy a rebuilt dash unit. Save your money! There is a fix for this problem. NAISSO Impala Superstore sells a fix kit. It will require you to remove your gauge dash unit and install fix. It bypasses the 3 resistors by going through the supplied kit resistor and than back to the circuit board on back side of dash unit. This is the correct fix to use. Do not try to resolder 3 larger resistors in the place of the olds ones!! The fix kit is not expensive and will fix your odometer problem for good.
My digital odometer is out. I can't see my rpm, mileage and how much gas I have. What will be the problem
when I turn off the ignition and open door, then remove ignition key, for a few seconds, the odometer display will work
