I have 1995 chevy lumina 3.1 engine 6 cylinder. My car currently will not start at all after four mechanics looked at it. Before this my security light was on every once in a while then became frequent. Then started to where i would go tp start it n at first wouldn crank up, so i try again then cranked up.. after that it just prolonged to hours of tryin before it worked. I've tried the one method of bypassing with leaving on til the security light stays on but that stopped working. so the last day i went to start it n it took a hour of tryin before it worked and as approaching a stop light it just stopped n hasn't worked since.. My first mechanic checked a lot the security module, ignition key switch, new key, computer n all but no luck... Then the other mechanics tried the starter, altinator n fuses but still no luck... i have one last mechanic now tryin but really dont want to keep waistin my time been without a car for four months... PLEASE HELP!!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO?????? 6 Answers

I have a '99 Chevy Lumina LTZ, and for the first couple of years that I had it it would never really heat up until the past two years, when I noticed the temperature gauge actually moving. Anyway, when it heats up(needle in the center or right in the gauge), my car shakes and it shifts really hard. Any ideas? It has 172,xxx on it, and I'd like to get another year or so out of it without replacing anything major. 2 Answers

My Lumina's "Service Engine Soon" light came on as I tried to turn over the ignition. The engine turned over, however the engine seemed to be oscillating and shook the car. I turned it off, popped the hood. I couldn't find anything visually wrong. So I turned it over again, same idiot light and oscillation, however I noticed smoke coming from the electrical component up front under the exhaust manifold. This car is a 1996, w/ 155Kmiles and a new computer and 50K on the new trannie. I love the car and don't want to get rid of it, what should this be? Is it worth repairing? Is the smoke (like that of a burnt electrical component) related to the oscillation? I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you 1 Answer
1996 lumina, LS, 3.1L. We use only synthetic oil. I noticed the oscillation and idiot light together. the smoke was a couple of days later when i tried to trouble shoot.
