Dear Melf-- The towing capacity on both the 2WD and 4WD is a huge 10,000 pounds. You can haul an awful lot with that. Good luck from Bovan.

Whoa, that's way off! Try 6500 pounds max for a 2x4 1500, the 4x4 is 6000 pounds.

I think people get the GCWR, truck and trailer combined, confused with towing capacity. Or; GCW gross combination weight vs GTW gross tow weight.

This helps me also guys. Thanks I have a 1995 1500 4x4 and was wondering about long towing a 4000lb trailer.

That should be no trouble at all, just remember to check your tranny fluid!

Check your owners manual or the factory service manual. 7,500# with the factory towing package, that's a 3.73 ratio not the stock 3.42.

I'm confused. Is it 6000 lbs or 7500 lbs. tow capacity? I get a different answer from different sources. We want to tow a trailer that weighs 5675 lbs, but the trailer's manufacturer advised against it. Didn't think the 1995 Suburban 1500 would do well with it. Our other trailer choice is 4265 lbs, and I think we may be safe with that. The heavier trailer is better built, and I wish we could get that one.

I had a 95 chevey surbuban and the dealer told me its between 10k 12.500 lb. Tow depends upon the moter if you have the 5.7 its a conservative 10k i had a 9500 lb camper towed from Plymouth mass to keywest no problems i now have an 07 gmc 4.8 and its factory rated 8500 so don listen to the idiot's who say 600 the are stoned on tobacco

The more stress on an engine.....the closer you ride to the vehicles maximum weight ability to tow....the more likely you’ll end up having to replace a costly transmission..... especially on Suburbans. I’ve owned two Suburbans (cause I’m a woman pulling a wheelchair accessible camper around the USA) and had both transmissions go out. The engine on one of them also went out. I’m on here looking for trucks instead now. I wish they made a much stronger pulling Suburban so I can use this vehicle every day to haul my daughters kids places too..... Please make us a wheelchair accessible (sits lower for my parapalegic husband to lift himself into) 3/4 ton or full ton Suburban please!! With DVD players for kids, leather, sunroof.....for mom’s and kids type vehicle!

Hi guys, Hope this helps an original sticker to my 1996 gmc suburban. It comes with the tow package transmission cooler and engine oil cooler and the 3.73 axle ratio and at the bottom it states 6500lbs towing. You need to minus passenger and cargo weight off that figure. You never want to max out your towing capacity give yourself 5-10% room If you care about your transmission and engine.
