will the sump come off an alfa 156 2.0 twin spark in-situ

Yes, you can drop the sump in inspect or replace the big ends without removing the engine from the car. See Alfa Owner dot com for more information.

you are damn right Dan- sump is off, but had to remove the oil pick up pipe before the sump would come out. Now waiting for a set of rod bearings and rod bolts. Will try the website for the big end torque. cheers, Oll
