Chevy Silverado 2500HD Coolant Leak.... Please Help

Asked by ChrisJ914 Aug 07, 2014 at 02:04 PM about the Chevrolet Silverado Classic 2500HD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Silverado 2500 HD that has a severe coolant leak. It is leaking on the
driver's side, and only overnight after everything has cooled back down. When its warm
and running, no leak at all. I know there isnt much on that side of the motor, thinking
maybe the freeze plug? Which would be odd considering socal isnt cold in the summer
time, but not sure what else it could be.... Any help would be appreciated

Still could be freeze plug. I don't claim to know anything about metallurgy and if brass will expand more than the block, but maybe the heat does expand it enough to stop the leak. Throwing out a guess here...

check your overflow container for cracks. they are plastic and can go bad. when you turn vehicle off it heats up and fluid expands. thus buuilding pressure and leaking out somewhere.
