Dome light does not come on when doors open on Tribeca

Asked by Pcarlucci Mar 01, 2020 at 03:58 PM about the Subaru Tribeca

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I open the door the front map lights come on but the dome lights for the
2nd and 3rd row do not. The switches are set in the correct “door” position
and both dome lights work when you move the switch to the “on” position.

The B pillar switch is frozen with crud or salt. Pop the rubber condom off it, remove, and clean up its contacts; then remount. Should be ok. Sometimes you can effect a quick repair by just finger-bouncing it repeatedly, but that may indeed be temporary. Have fun.

There's no wiring in the door latches, Ed. The problem is always the unibody pillar simple switches (what you call "jambs") as they get old and develop dirty contacts that are easy to clean with sandpaper or a fine screwdriver tip. If the dome light works it's not the system wiring...ever.

Thank you all. I really appreciate the insights. I am a little unsure on how it could be the door pressure switch(s). To be specific, when you open any of the doors, the front dome/map lights come on and fade after a period of time. It is only the 2nd and 3rd row dome lights that don't come on when any of the doors are open. If it was one or more of the switches, I would think that the front dome/map lights wouldn't come on either. Does anyone know if the three dome lights are connected in series? I was thinking that if the 2nd and 3rd dome lights are wired off of the front dome/map light, maybe the issue is at the front harness or the wiring from the front to the 2nd row light.
