I love my Envoy, however I dispise GMC. Granted, I purchased my car used, but my spare tire is rusted and cannot be removed from the vehicle without cutting the cable that holds it up. I do not want to take up my precious cargo space with a spare riding in the hatch. Took it to a local dealership, was quoted $275 to repair. I contacted GM headquarters Customer Service, spoke with "Maria" ... she said that GM is aware of the issue, but "because of the way the car was designed, water and moisture gets up in the lowering mechinism and causes the cable to rust..." but they refuse to repair it ... claiming it "isn't anything they did" ... if they know it rust, why dont they fix it ... so to answer your question, yes the GMC Envoy is an overall good vehicle, the company however IS NOT!!! Go Toyota ... my cousin's 4Runner (also a 2002) had the same issue last summer, and Toyota fixed it, no problem, no questions.

I have a 2004 Envoy and I love mine too. I have really not had any problems with mine other that normal wear and tear. I have a Vortex engine in mine and I have heard those are great engines.

I’ve got a 2003 GMC Envoy with 207,603 Miles on it, running great so far, hope to get another 100k out of it with proper maintenance. Previous owner has already had the transmission rebuilt though.

I love my GMC Envoy (2008). It runs like a scalded dog, it's damn reliable, and I bought it in a place where you're lucky to get about half a pick up truck (the other half being rust) for ten grand, for $4050.00. I don't drive'em easy, I go where I want, when I want, and you simply can't kill that 4 speed 4L60E transmission, or transfer case. I've had this for about two years and, seriously, I've run the dog balls off of it and it just keeps going. The last truck that I've had that bested this one was my 95 Chevy Suburban. I owned it for 10 years, put a hundred and fifty grand (MILES) on it. Paid 3599.00 for it and would be still be driving it if my son hadn't wrecked it. It was a true 4WD. If you wanted to go to 4WD then you had to manually shift it there. I actually towed a HOUSE with it once, on two trailers hooked together. While camping once, another camper got their rig stuck trying to pull out. They had a Ford 4WD pick up hooked up to it and were about to unhitch the trailer when they came and got me. I told them to leave it be as it would be more likely to slide sideways unhooked from the truck. I simply hooked it to my rear towbar, put it in 4WH and it came out slick as a whistle. The were astonished. When my son wrecked the truck it had 257,000.00 on it and still ran perfectly. Other than routine maintenance all it ever had was the transmission changed. Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, or whatever they're calling themselves this week, don't even have a snowball's chance in Hell of outlasting or out pulling a GM. I drug my buddies Dodge Ram, that he paid more for than I paid for my house, backwards about 2 blocks down the street until his engine overheated and he had to tap out or lose a motor.

I have an 06 base SLT 139K on the clock. Love it, drove it 400 miles at 70 mph..... 20.3 MPG I was shocked. Yes I can do division so I know it's right. Probably overpaid for it $5,700 dollars but I like it. No rust issues except for the spare tire which has never been off. I live in Appalachia on a river, use 4x4 every time I fire it up on the 7 mile long dirt road.
