2004 GMC Envoy Transmission problem

Asked by Ross Jun 06, 2013 at 07:52 PM about the GMC Envoy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am trying to find out the solutions to the following symptoms. SES light came on,
transmission quit shifting. 2nd and 3rd gear only gears work, but have to shift manually.
When car sits for a time transmission works fine at first but after driving 4-5 minutes
problem start up again. Drove two days ago SES light not on transmission is fine. Today
problem is back. Ignition interlock device hasn't worked since buying car 7 months ago.

Sounds a lot like an ignition switch dropping a voltage leg. Look into a switch. Really easy to tell by checking voltages

I have an 02 envoy and had the same problem with lost gears. 2/3. I scanned it and changed one of the shift solenoid. I did the filter at the same time. That was a year ago. Now I lost overdrive. There is 4 solenoid sin this tranny. I say change them all when your in there around $40 each. I do my own work so i don't have to pay the $300 in labor each time you go into the tranny. Good luck
