You need to have the codes read to know what is going on. Limp mode occurs because of a serious problem, don't ignore it.

Had car in fords last year they found no codes and found nothing wrong, but it has started doing it again.

The major things that cause a car to go into limp mood would be the lack of cooling in the car and the transmission, so if it were me I would look there. You could have a intermittent short in the cooling sensor and I would check the harness connection to the transmission it could be loose or dirty...good luck and happy new year..
