Can't put my Fiesta into any gear. Gear stick is floppy? what has gone wrong?

Why wont mu Ford Fiesta identify any gears? my gear stick is almost floppy
and will not even identify any of the gear. car made a click noise when trying
to change from reverse into 1st and then
wont move at all. i can rev and put my clutch in but wont move when i put my
foot on accelerator.
