are 19 inch rims safe for dodge journey

Question type: Car Customization

I read that 19 in. wheels on Dodge Journey are rough riding and very unsafe if you have a blowout. We have one
but think it rides good and is good on snow and ice like we had this year in Minn. Has anyone had experience with those size tires and wheels?

ride is great but - do not blow out a tire! $300.00+ Canadian and always on back order. Took me 4 months to get one

16 x 6.5 in. wheels are safe. so u can check rims accordingly

My experience is with the 19" wheels in snowy conditions, ice must build up in wheelwells, makes the car undriveable, front end jumps up and down, can't even hold on to the steering wheel. Notice that on the newer ones, wheel size has been reduced to 17".

We have a 2012 SXT w/19" rims. They came with 225/55/19 Kumho. We wanted Michelin X-ice. Dealer installed P235/55/19 in 2 days The ride & handling at least 50% improved. Handled snow & ice very well, w/excellent braking. With any tire have to watch salted slush over 4" deep.

Wheels are only as safe as the tires installed on on them.

I have a 2009 SXT but it came with 235/55/19. I never realized that the standard size is 225/55/19, until I needed new tires this week. I never noticed anything negative driving in ice or snow, and I live in MI. I guess I should just pay the extra $$ and stick with 235/55/19

I have a 2014 Dodge Journey and just found out that it has 19" tires. I had looked online for size and was of the impression it had 17" tires, then to find out (if I had only looked myself) that it has 19". The price difference between the 17" tires I got a quote for online and the 19" tires I got a quote for at the Firestone dealer is significantly different. Like $200 more. I was shocked and now looking for a better price online, just to find out that's the price if you want a good all season tire. Oh well, this has been an eye opener for me. Just saying...always do you homework before venturing out to the tire store...
