Car died within 3 years

Asked by Robin Apr 06, 2021 at 10:02 AM about the BMW X6

Question type: General

The car I purchased through CarGurus died within 3 years of purchase. It is a
2012 BMW X6 and was purchased from a private seller. One of the turbos is
dead as well as the entire transmission. All total, repairs would cost $18k,
which is what I owe on the car. Does anyone know if there is recourse for this?
Thank you

You can pay to fix it or scrap it. I would get another quote from an independent BMW shop. This is why I tell people not to buy older BMW's. They are a minefield of problems.

A private sale is an As Is sale, so no recourse, especially after 3 years. If your repair quote was from a dealer, see if they can help with the costs. But like FOR said, get another quote. A turbo and transmission failing at the same time is not very likely.

I am guessing it was just SO pretty and the price seemed SO low for such a fancy pants car. Now you know (the hard way) never to buy a German luxury car used.

Are you sure that the "entire" transmission is bad? Did you bother to service the vehicle? Did you make the HUGE mistake of buying a used BMW with no money in the bank? If so, welcome to the school of hard knocks.
