Have an 89 GMC 4wd pick-up with a 700r trans, that is losing reverse, in 2wd, but seems
to work alright in 4wd. Shifts alright, in forward gears. Fluid looks good, and is full. What
could be the problem ?
Have aamco scan the transmission computer. Could be something simple.

Has the transmission filter ever been replaced? They are fairly cheap and you can do it yourself easily enough in 30min to an hour with 0 experience

Rpms shoot up to 4-5 when stepping on gas in drive. It is an automatic. When I manually shift it to 2 it drives fine no spiked rpms.
