What is the normal operating oil pressure for a
2013 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 liter engine

Warmed up oil pressure would idle at like 20, 25 lbs, up to 40-60 lbs. when rpms are up. If you think you have a oil pressure issue, first take out the oil pressure sending unit. There is a screen under the oil sending unit that needs to come out and be cleaned or replaced. Oil pressure sending unit would be out anyway, so you might as well replace it also.

So I changed my oil pressure sensor and took the screen out and I am still getting low oil pressure when it idling but goes to about 30 when I'm driving any solutions on what's wrong

change the oring on the oil pump pickup tube. They suck air and when the oil is cold it cant pull it up the tube. It's kinda like taking a drink through a broken straw. I went from 0psi at idle before changing it to 50-60 psi cold idle now. it is amazing what a difference it made. we decided not to change the oil pump and pulled the front axle, crossmember and oil pan and changed it in about 4 hours.

There's any risk on motor if the warning keeps coming motor I mean can be over heat.?

The AC Delco oil filters have been causing low oil pressure issues. We just put a Mobil 1 filter on mine and it made a world of difference

What is normal oil pressure I start mine and it's at 20PSI and their one I'm driving down the road it gets to just under 40 psi any ideas I want to could be people of told me that it's low pressure and some people say that it's normal

Ive change my oil pressure sensor and the screen I changed the oil pump pickup tube o ring today and at idle right now it's at 19psi. Same as before. When I crank it up from a cold start it's over 40 psi. When I give it gas it will go up to around 40. No knocks or taps. Should I be ok with this or should I keep digging. I also changed the oil and filter. Please help me. 2010 silverado 5.3

Daniel, I have done, and had all sorts if work done to my 2012. That light will not go away for an extended period of time. You are fine as long as you know you have enough oil in the pan. The tap of the lifter by the drivers side tire is a dead give away when low. Just keep checking your oil, changing, and replacing your filter and your truck will be fine.

When I start mine at idle cold it's 40 after warm goes to 60 and fluctuate this ok

I have seen the solution is to oversized bearings .001. Seems that they are built with more clearance because the crank doesn’t splash oil in the pan and this is required to increase flow. I could not find the link but there is an excellent you tube video with a rebuilder that’s specializes in these engines. This is what he does.

I have a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 and my oil pressure has always ran high (around 40-50psi) and just yesterday it dropped out of nowhere telling me to stop engine. Now when I start the truck it stay at around 40 PSI and drops back down to 0 a few seconds later. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Merle2020: It will, likely, be one of two issues. The most likely, your oil sending unit sensor is going bad OR there is sludge clogging the screen under the sensor. A cheap, but somewhat difficult fix, either way. The least likely reason is that the sending unit wiring harness (pigtail) has worn wires and there is a short. Also a cheap, but difficult, fix due to the position of the harness and little slack given by OEM pigtail. I hope that helps.

I have a 2008 Silverado with a 5.3 L motor. The issue with most of the above problems is a tedious cleanup. The air intake needs to be removed along with the fuel rail and wire harness disconnected. Underneath the intake assembly is a cover that leads to the solenoids that operate the active fuel management lifters. This assembly needs to be removed, cleaned, and reassembled. The cover hides various channels for oil flow. While in there; amble opportunity to remove, clean, and replace the oil pressure switch. It took me about six hours but I am not a mechanic. There are probably videos on YouTube for reference. Just remember mark everything before removal and maybe takes pictures. Hopefully this helps.

Engine low pressure causing by cheap ass filter from carquest. Add motor flush ang change oil and use gold oil filter from NAPA, it will fix it. Problem solve!

Just did the vlom and afm lifters on my 2008 gmc sierra 5.3. took it for a test drive with the old oil and filter for a run up before the oil change. It made it 3 kilometers with full oil psi then it dropped to zero. Let it sit for a few seconds and fired it up....full oil pressure. Drove it home and the oil pressure dropped to zero again. Long story short, I did the oil change and put on a quality filter and the oil pressure stays up at 275kp at idle when hot now. Never thought a filter could fail like that but live and learn.

You don’t have to pull fuel rail off I just replaced my oil sensor and new screen. Was able to take wire Harness off and put socket on with swivel attached and extension and took a pick pulled filter out replaced both total of 15 min

So I've got an interesting problem. I'd crank my truck (2011 Sierra 1500 5.3L) and have 40psi. As I drove around it would get lower and lower, until eventually it would drop to just above 0 and the low pressure light would come on. I replaced the oil pressure sensor today, and it now hovers at 18-20psi while driving. Before all of this started, 40psi was typical. I'm really confused how changing out the pressure sensor could've halfway fixed the problem?
