I have a fiat punto 1.2l 2001 manual recently there has been a loud whirring or whooing noise every time I'm accelerating between 20mph and 40mph etc.

Asked by Kimmy9696 Dec 02, 2014 at 06:15 AM about the FIAT Punto

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have read it could be a timing belt
tensioner but I would like to know
how long before it breaks altogether,
will it still be drivable and a rough
pricing for this repair?
Thank you

I associate that kind of noise to a bushing going out on a pulley, like the serpentine belt tensioner pulley. I guess it's possible to be on the timing belt tensioner, but I imagine that sound would be more muffled. I haven't been able to locate a parts listing for a serpentine belt tensioner pulley so I don't know if your car even has one. If it's the tensioner on the serpentine belt you can drive it as long as you can stand the noise.
