I know that the heater core is on the passenger side under the dash, what is the best way
to replace it?

I don't know about the Galaxie, but our '65 Mustang had a steel box around the heater coil in it. I can't remember if it was that car where there were actually latches on each side to unsnap to take off the box or if the box was put on with screws. Anyway, the picture is of a heater core for a '65 Galaxy and yo can see that it doesn't have any mounting brackets on it, so it must be held in place by the heater box and connecting hoses.

You have to remove the passenger side fender to get complete access to the heater box. Wasn't bad at all once the fender was off.
a galaxie and a mustang are totally 100% different animals, nothing is the same
