Skyline

R35. but the 2009 GTR which is what i assume you're referring to.... is NOT called a skyline. the last REAL skyline was the R34. Nissan decided to make the R35 but not call it a skyline, idk y.
Because of the GT-R's heritage, the chassis code is designated CBA-R35 (R-35 for short), carrying on the naming trend from previous Skylines ( i.e.: ,PGC10 {1st Gen}, E-BNR-32 {3rd gen}, ect.) IF Nissan decides to build a R36 it will be a 7th Gen.
For marketing purposes, Nissan decided to finally make 'GT-R' official even though earlier concepts from 2001 did however carry the 'Skyline' livery for quite some time but this was probally to get a PR buzz going. The dealership that I used to work for simply calls her "Supercar". Then you also have the legendary "Godzilla" moniker used in Japan & U.K. versions are similiar.
the infiniti g35 is still a skyline in japan is it not?
Yes. However, the specific Japanese codename is V35 (also 350GT) minus the crowning of GT-R family. The V36 is the 2nd gen of the V series nameplate (2007-present, *including the G-37*) "GT-R" is just the high-performance brand of the Nissan Skyline since 1969.
