Mileage on car changed??

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi, We bought our Ford C Max (2011) one year ago and it had done 41000
miles on the clock. I'm taking it in for a service next week but I have just
noticed that the clock now reads only 6600 miles. We have had no work
done on the car in the last year so I don't understand what could have
happened. Really concerned now. Any help before I take it to be serviced
and MOT'd would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Sorry I meant odometer. Yes I have looked through it all and its definately coming up with 6600 miles total, my trip mileage is at 47 as i reset every time i fill up the tank. Thanks
Wow, I wish my vehicles would turn their miles back. That would be great come trade in time.
What did your title paperwork say? If it does not agree with your 41K number, you need to know and decide if you want to talk to the dealer you bought it from. If it agrees, then have the odo circuit looked at an, potentially reset to the proper figure. Is this mechanical odo or electronic? The repair/fix would be different.
Hi Taver91, The title paperwork does state the 41000 miles. It is an electronic odometer. Would it be costly for us to have it looked and hopefully reset to the proper figure? Thanks
I am not familiar with the electronic ones but I would think this is a relatively easy fix. Probably needs a sensor replaced and the "brain" reset to your justifiable miles. Will also likely need some paperwork for your state's titling people. If it was more than 1-200 bucks, I would just add the 41 K to the current figure to determine needed service items and worry about it or fix it when you go to sell the car.
