How do I disengage the traction control system. is it connected to the rear brakes?.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car a 2005 cadillac deville with 228,000 plus miles has been well maintained and services as indicated by the manufacturer.  the traction control system is now engaging as soon as i start the car.  it is restricting the car from going forward in a drive position. If I drive forward I can only go 4 miles per hour.  After several ; attempts, it will shift and run at the speed I usually drive.  Is this a problem with the rear brakes?     Please advise, I really need to keep this car running for at least another year or 25,000 miles.
