9 times out of 10 it is a suspect head gasket if it is not then would recomend you back flush the coolant system with bicarbonate of soda to clean it out fully what you do is pour the bicarb in the expansion tank run the car for about 15 mins then disconect the rad hose and insert a hose pipe in it and turn it on flushing out the system get the correct anti freeze mixafter the system is flushed reconect everything and fill the coolant system with the heaters on full and hot to ensure no air blockages also whilst you do that i would recomend an oil change as well using semi synthetic oil

Same thing happened to me, Liquids (atifreez and elbowgreas) were mixe in a crack in the head gasket.

Water pump failure is quite common on K series engines, and should be changed as a matter of course when replacing the cam belt. Failure to fix a cooling system problem promptly will inevitably lead the head gasket failing on a K series engine.
