Air intake/duct

Asked by Colin Apr 07, 2019 at 08:26 PM about the Kia Rio

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have lost the plastic air duct system that rested under the left front wheel
area of my 2017 Kia Rio after driving over a snowbank accidentally (it sort of
got shattered/scraped off the underside of my car, where it rested). I plan on
getting the system replaced as quickly as possible, but how terrible is it for
me to continue to drive before the duct is replaced? The engine still sounds
fine, and the filter, which is located under the hood, is still in place. I believe
the duct system provides initial filtration, and perhaps by not having a duct
there's added risk of "bad," "dirty," air getting into my engine? The splash
guard got torn off too, incidentally.
