windsheild wipers

Asked by christelle613 Feb 03, 2009 at 10:11 AM about the Kia Rio

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I try to use the windsheild wipers on my Rio I can hear the motor running but the wipers are not moving and are not attached to anything since I can physicaly move the wipers with my hands. Now would I need to change the belt or would it be something else.

Try tightening the the 14mm (I believe that's the size) nuts that hold the wiper arms to the wiper motor linkage.

I have had the same problem and tightening the nut on the arm does work! Kia's are know for that. When the weather becomes nicer im goin to try to put a lockin nut on it!

I'd just go to you local part store and buy blue loctite. applie to the threads of the nuts and then tighten the nuts. make sure you get blue as red is permanant and might cause damage to the wiper motor linkage to break should the arms need replaced or anything like that.

Seems to be a common problem. Just happened to both wipers on my daughter's car, may be related to a heavy snow load on the windshield.
