2004 BMW 545I

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I am looking at buying this car from a dealership and it has 94,000 miles.. I have found
out that they have sunk around $2000.00 in repairs to correct some oil leaks. I know
from reading reviews that this can be a common problem with this V8. Is there anything
I can look for while test driving that may show other issues with the car, or just make
sure to buy a warranty with it to cover possible unseen issues. The reviews I have read
are for the most part they either love it or hate it. Any suggestions/ ideas will be happily
taken.

You always have to be careful in buying luxury/ European cars. Parts are pretty dang expensive. With Japanese and American cars are different. European cars are nice but unless I had had money to maintain a car like that, I wouldn't get them because the littlest things can be expensive
American V8s are the way to go

I owned this car and I loved the way it drove but the oil leaks are what caused me to sell car. I just say as long as your are handy or wealthy then you will be okay; otherwise, I say stay away.
The 2004 545 is the first e60 to come with the n62 engine and came with some issues so if you can buy a 2005 or earlier 545. I like the the six cil engine from the 2004 it is the best no problems just have to give good maintenance.
Have teh same oil leak issues which I just had fixed. It was the alternator bracket that was the main leak. About $500 to fix. I also replaced the alternator and just did the front brakes. I had the shop use BMW parts and it is great. I had previously had Midas do the front brakes and the rotors did not last. Midas charge $450, and BMW charged $600. I did call BMW customer service about the oil leak issues, and they essentially said the car was to old to help with expense. That would not admit these cars had oil leak issues.
I own a 6 speed manual 545i 4.4 v8. This is the nicest fastest best handling car I've ever owned and kind of a sleeper which I like. However, maintenance... Alternator oil seal bracket leak $1000. Front timimg cover and valve cover gaskets leak $2000. Rear main seal and coolant jacket seal leaks $3800, but that did include a new clutch so mostly duplicate labour. Oil filled engine mounts $1000 if you know a guy. Coolant expansion tank $180 but super easy to install. But I love this car and I've never seen another one in a 6 speed manual transmission. Speedo is registered for 260 and it will bury the needle .
I have a misfire on cyl#5 seems that i have no signal to the injector
