2004 Kia Sorento, almost overheated. I replaced the radiator reservoir and thermostat but, water pours out the front pat of motor, under water pump. could it be a freeze plug somewhere

It sure does sound like a freeze to me, you say the water is coming out of the side of the engine, correct, not need the pump? if so yes a freeze plug sounds like it may need to be changed..
