why wont CarMD read anything on the PT cruiser plug?

Asked by Terry Nov 09, 2016 at 03:00 PM about the Chrysler PT Cruiser

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Tried to check for error codes on 2006 PT cruiser that im buying but nothing registers when I plug in the cable/module for CarMD, similar to what MVA/DMV reads for inspection.  When I put it on any other car it say "reading"  Then I turn the key to on and after about a minute or less it beeps twice indicating it dont reading.  The PT show nothing, dead with the key on off or running.  Any ideas?  Thanks for your time.

I was thinking maybe they pulled it so it would not show errors or check engine light. Do you know what fuse it is? Thanks for your time and your answer.

Not sure but you can check to see if it has voltage. Here's a procedure that I copied from someone else's post.. The data link connector has 16 wire connector slots. The number 1 slot is the top left, going to the right, the last one on the top right is number 8. The second row left is 9 and moving to the right to the last one is 16. Check that terminals number 4 and 5 are ground, and 8 is ignition switch on/start voltage and 16 is fused battery positive. If the grounds and positive battery feeds are good then it sounds like you lost communication in the CAN BUS system which would require a more sophisticated scanner
