What year did Chrysler introduce the Newport as it's own model series?

It was first used in 1940 on the non production vehicle Chrysler Newport Phaeton. That was only 1 year from '40 to '41. Then in '50 it was used to designate the 2 door model in chryslers lineup. Then in '61 to '64. '65 to '68. Then '69 to '78. Then '79 to '81.
