Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 73 Super Beetle.  After my mechanic did a thorough tune up and did a compression test the car runs fine.  But after doing 2 averages on fuel vs.mileage I'm only getting 15 miles per gallon.  Using unleaded fuel.  The car had not been driven for several months.  Could this be the reason my mileage is bad. I've owned 7 V.W.'s, several of them Super Beetles and usually get 24 to 28 m.p.g.  Any thoughts one what could cause the low miles per gallon?

It very well could be. Rings are known to take a set and it takes months to recover. You could add a can of CD-2 oil detergency package which will help with gummy rings.

I have a 74,, super. And I thought the same thing. But figured out that my odometer turns verry slow. And sometimes none at all. After I measure my travels with another car... I figured out that I'm getting 25-28 mpg.....
