I have a 1972 Beetle type 1 and when I engage the right turn sigfnal the horn beeps

If I recall, the horns are switched on ground, meaning they always have power to them and only beep when connected to a ground, so the turn signal may be completing an unintended ground for the horn circuit. That might be happening in the column.

Thank you Ken. I just got this Beetle and after taking off the cover in the front trunk I found a loose ground wire. Perhaps that wa somehow involved for now I have no horn at all! I will see if there is an obvious ground location and test it again.
Wouldn't hurt to check the horn relay. The clock spring in the steering wheel can be another suspect for a non-working horn. A decent multimeter is helpful in check for continuity or shorts.
