Question type: Maintenance & Repair
The car has 135,000 kms on it. Since new it has used a considerable amount of oil. Up to a litre every
1500 kms. We purchased the car new and this has always been a problem. VW never helped at all.

There is an acceptable amount of oil consumption set forth by each manufacturers on an engine to engine basis. With the mileage on your vehicle, it is likely to be any one of a multitude of mechanical failures causing this concern. Furthermore, to diagnose a not so obvious oil consumption concern could become quite costly to diagnose.
You call that 'burning"? Im having a real oil issue with Camry 07 that uses up 1.4L every 2-300km. This is burning.
