oh bryans1966----a 47 year old guy....got it..your failure to state what year the car is has me guessing...guessing could be a 1987----2013 somewhere many engineering changes between these years~ okay?
i have a question my transmission seems to shift smooth but before shifting im getting a really high rm usually first to second i get about 2500 to 3000 rpms then third to fourth i get about 3500-5500 rpms and sometimes on a bad day itll redline and its an automatic 2001 mazda 626 2.0 4cyl i have no cel on or anything im clueless i tryed to get a filter changed but it only has a screen not a filter,my fluids are all good idk what it could be

Have you checked the transmission Fluid Level running HOT with the parking brake set? Does the fluid smell nice or burnt? is the level low? do you see evidence of Transmission Fluid drips near the flexible connection to the radiator (usual point of failure)....okay...perhaps this has some vacuum solenoids or electric signals from the TCM...might have to shimmy down underneath to see if all connections are there....vacuum lines are not split or bloated and all the servos operate when tested~
yes i checked the fluids its not running hot but my c.e light came on for a missfire in cyl 3 and i have a valve cover gasket leak im fixing the valve cover gaskets and doing a complete tune-up should this solve the problom?

just inspect....and perhaps replace the butyl-rubber hoses with silicone ones which do not crack or bloat...take on oil and keep evaporating themselves 'till crack...so might be a good practice to change out the black rubber vacuum hoses with silicone...just a word from the judge

You did not say which year....makes it kinda impossible to find the parts that may fix your problem....right now am hot on the idea of the idle air control valve IAC, which can get fouled and not do it's job properly~ https://www.google.com/#q=Mazda+626+Idle+Air+Control+valve&tbm=shop

Solid Ground connection from the battery....the 1/0 thick Black cable that attaches to the chassis ground....wirebrush the lug (holding it with a pliers) wirebrush the chassis so that 300 cold cranking amps can get thru there....also be sure the battery is not yet five years old as they become compromised and cannot accept a charge ten percent per year~
I have the same question as the original question. 2001 mazda protege es 2.0 after reaching 60 mpg, the car starts to stall battery light comes on. Rpm gauge red lines but engine does not. Just the gauge. Only does this sometimes, but I let it cool 15 minutes and it's fine. Any ideas?
