1996 Ram 1500 shuts off and than start back up.

Asked by Joe Nov 02, 2016 at 10:24 PM about the RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 ram 1500 5.2 4x4. this is the 3rd day (not in a row) that i
have had this issue. I will be early on into my drive (0-3 miles) and my
engine will shut off. it wont make any noise just shuts off. I am able to put it
into neutral (still rolling down the highway) and start it back up with no
problem. no check engine light comes on, I have no way to check for codes
myself if there is any but with no engine light i doubt it. some of my friends
think its the fuel pump but I think if it was the fuel pump it would hesitate to
start back up (needing to build up pressure). has anyone ever had this
issue? could it be reading a sensor code even when the engine light doesnt
come on?

Only way i got codes from my 88 ram is with the key trick. The check engine light comes on and flashes like morse code and gives you different numbers. Mine is having the same problem at the moment but i noticed that my IAC motor is messing up so my engine is starving for air.
