procedure for replacing driver side axle on 2009 kia rio 5 sx

driver side axle broke into about 3 inches from outboard
would like to have procedures for replacement
is this an unusual thing to happen

an axle can break if it hits something- not unusual- but unusual for it to happen by itself- just replace it along with new CV joints- it comes as a unit- and don't worry too much about the mysteries of the road
