Check engine light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 2002 millenium.  I am aware of potential problems.  Two days ago, the 'check engine light' came on.  At a mechanic shop, two codes showed up- one for a misfire on a cylinder (needing tune-up) and the second related to the EGR sensor.  I plan to do a tune-up and clean the sensor instead of replacing (if possible).  Here is my question.  Last night, the 'check engine light' did not light up. I did add new gas to the tank and did tighten the gas cap.  Any suggestions why the light went off!

I had the check engine light and the "check fuel cap" light on. My 2006 Mazda Tribute had three codes, rough idle, and hard crank. I went to clean or replace the EGR valve.... turns out it was a simple $2.00 fix....bad vacuum hose to the EGR valve....now no lights, and running smoothly....check your vacuum hoses really well...
