All 2006 Mazda Tribute Trims are all wheel drive, both the the 4.3Liter and V6 3.0Liter. They have electronic four-wheel-drive system, called Active Torque Control Coupling, and uses an electromagnetic clutch to control the amount of torque sent to the rear wheels in the event of front wheel loss of traction. Now as for labeling...ya got me.

The Tribute does come in either a FWD(front wheel drive) or AWD(all wheel drive). DavidH describes the function in great detail, unfortunately he is incorrect about the engine as there is no 4.3 available, it is a 2.3 or 3.0. The easiest way to tell if it FWD or AWD is look under it from the back. If you see a differential and axles going out to the wheels (like in the photo) it is AWD: http://www.oramagazine.com/images/0507- july/050706f- escape-hybrid/05photo10.jpg If its FWD there will be just a big hole in the centre of the rear suspension as you can see in the following picture if you look close:http://blog.sourcejockey.com/wp- content/uploads/2009/07/mazda_tribute_hybrid_touring_hev _2wd_2009_exterior_6.jpg
