Timing chain or cam belt

I am not seeing any listings on a Audi A3 1.6L, All I see is a 2.0L that is belt driven.

If this is a 4 cylinder it is going to have a belt, the v6 has chains. If you are going to replace the belt it is recommended to change out the water pump and pulleys, tensioners, you'll be right there anyway, no sense in tearing it down twice.

That is weird, checked out that sight and it show a timing chain. Every thing I have looked up shows a timing belt. So ya it needs to be looked at to see what it has.

The 1.6 FSI is a 16 valve DOHC. Several other sites I looked say could be a belt. I am confused just as you are. A photo of the engine would confirm it.

The a3 has both a cambelt and a timing chain the timing chain will sound like diesel car when it's due for a change. Best you do it soonest. Cambelt is on the left side of the engine and the chain is on the right side. The cambelt you change every 100000km. I have done both on my à3 and it's now at 165000km with no problem.
