95-98 sr20det comes stock intercooled turbo so i would go with 96 240sx
Are you in the United States? No U.S. 240sx came turbocharged. The SR20DET was in certain Silvias and 180. You can find 240's here with SR20's, RB20, RB25, RB26, CA18, and customized KA24, among others, all of which are turbocharged.
yeah like the guy before me none of the US ones came factory turbo'd so your options are to buy a turbo kit for your engine or swap in a turbo engine such as the SR or RB
no 240 from the us comes boostin. so ur lookin at a swap. sr or rb. jspec.com shuld serve u right
the ones that arent n/a dur but actually a few of the models come s/c'd those are pretty biick nasty i just ran one today with my 99 supra with a twin turbo t77-34r quad ball bearing small pully exhaust with a 450 shot of NOZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

The Nissan Silvias (240sx) that came to the U.S aren't turbocharged. They all came with the lethargic 155bhp KA24DE engine, unlike the SR20DET engines that came with their JDM siblings with upwards of 200 bhp. If you're looking to buy a boosted 240, you're going to end up doing an engine swap, it's the only way here in the states unless you import a JDM Silvia. You shouldn't worry though as aftermarket support for this vehicle is huge and finding an SR20 is generally easy. The entire swap should only run you about $5,000, everything included, not bad, if you go out and buy a used 1991 240sx for $4,000, you'll have a $9,000 Silvia in America (its a great feeling, I know) Although, another way to go is to keep the KA24DE motor and turbocharge it. Slowly people are beginning to tune this motor as well besides the hugely popular SR20, and it's also a great block to tune because it has a much larger displacement.I also highly recommend consulting your state’s laws concerning engine swaps--swapping in an SR20DET engine into your 240SX might not be legal. It also might not pass smog tests. Anyway if you're going to do the swap, the biggest challenge to overcome is with the electronics. It’s not a simple matter of just installing an SR20DET engine and its respective ECU. The KA24 has a distributor; the SR20DET uses a distributor-less ignition system. As such, some of the wiring on the harness is incompatible with the car harness and the ECU. There are two ways around this: Modify the 240SX ECU to work with the SR20DET engine or use the SR20DET engine, SR20DET ECU, and a special engine wiring harness. The minimum items you’ll need include a shop, a shop manual, an engine hoist, a floor jack, jackstands, an effective complement of standard hand tools, and a couple of friends. Be prepared to make runs to the parts store to purchase a variety of miscellaneous items like hoses, clamps, and hardware. Oh, a hydraulic lift is real nice, too.
nitrous is for pussy they cant afford to tune there cars. id go for the rb25det motor to throw into it everyone and their grandmothers does the sr20 swap. rb swaps are rarer at least around here anyway
True. The S series chassis(S13&S14, known as the 240SX) never had a turbo engine in the USDM form....But the JDM S chassis' all had turbos. The 180SX(looks like the 240SX hatchback) has a puny CA 18DET puting out over 170whp and the S13 Silvia Ks had the legendary red top SR20DET that puts out over 190whp. The second gen(S14) JDM Silvia K had the improved black top SR20DET that puts out some 202whp but the USDM 240SX still had the KA24DE. Unfortunatly the S15 silvia never made it's way to the US market, it being a much more modern car both performance wise and styling wise. You'll have to do a swap if you want to build a race car 'cause the KA24DE's block isn't strong enough and can only handle some 400 whp. SR20DETs are cheep and can handle up to 550 whp with just bolt-ons, but it lags and lacks torque. The better swaps are either a RB26DETT from a R32-R34 Skyline GT-R or a VQ35DE/HR from a 350Z. Both swaps are great on power but requires a great amount of work on the mounts and custom parts need to be made.
