Well, for one that's a lot of miles on the car, and unless it was taken very well care of, it has a lot of work to be done. I am in the process of switching out my old KA24DE for a newer Blacktop S13 SR20DET. The engines go for about 2 grand but that comes with the wiring harness, transmission, ECU, and such(everything you need beside a CAI). Depending on if you want to mod a new engine changes how much you'll spend total. It is a lot of work to swap out the engines and you should have someone who has had some experience helping you along, that is if you want to do it right. If you don't switch the type of engine, say if you get a low mileage '96 KA24 to replace a '96 KA24 you won't have to change any wiring. The transmission may or may not need to be switched if you do that. That depends on wear on the gears.
