Won't exceed 40mph - not tranny
hey all. im considering buying a 1995 audi a4. what i can't figure out about it is that it will not go over 40 mph and
the owners assure me they have checked and re-checked for transmission trouble. they were unable to find anything
wrong so they're selling it.
does anyone know what the problem could be? is it an easy fix (blown fuse, sensor out, etc) or is it something more
serious?
thanks

You could have a bad coil, with the loss of power and all. You could be running on only 3 cylinders. I've had that problem before and when you replace one you might as well replace them all. Could cost a little over 1k to replace them all.
with the car being 10+ years old, check the catalytic converters. if they are completely clogged then you will be running on significantly less power (as well as down a cylinder or two). this may not be the cheapest fix, but its certainly easy. you can replace just the cat's to save cost from an entire exhaust upgrade
there's no such thing as a 1995 A4. and if by bad coil you mean bad coil pack then that could be the culprit but would cost less than $100 to fix
I’m considering buying a 2008 Audi A4 2.0 T he says that it will not go over 10 miles an hour and it has a rough idle should I buy it for 700
