Depends, dude. Are you wanting a classic Cruiser, or a modern one? I know for a fact 87 octane is fine in F and 2F engines. The modern, fuel injected ones don't seem to like it.

FJ60 (last model year 1987) and older, all FJ55's, all FJ45's, and all FJ40's. Pretty much 1987 2F's and older. It is possible to set up a modern fuel injected engine for 87 octane and lower fuel, but it requires adjustment to the computer. Most fuel injected FJ62's seem to run fine on 87 octane, but YMMV.
