What other Toyota engines can I swap for a 22R(5-spd.)

TT, this is a question that needs to be answered by a dealer. They should be able to tell you all compatible Toyota engines for that tranny. there is a straight six that will bolt right up to the tranny and motor mounts it is from the supra i think, I forget the motor designation but check out forums they will tell you more

the 22RE 4cyl. and 3VZ 6cyl. were stock in the 89-94 models and i know each had a 5 speed tranny option so i'm sure either of those would prolly work if you want to stay with a toyota truck engine. btw that inline 6 supra engine wont fit unless you cut into the firewall.

the 22re was for 89-94 models, its a 2.4L 4 cyl. besides the 3L V6 there are also several diesel options from the 88-92 land-cruisers, such as the 4 cyl 3L and the 2Lii-t, a turbo charged 2.4 L. all of these engines are bolt ons, i dont know about manual to auto or visa versa

Hi. Did you ever find a replacement engine that could bolt straight into the place of your 22R onto the 5 speed transmission?? Please let me know as I need to replace mine. I am based in Zambia where the 1RZ and 2RZ engines are very common but not the 22R. Does anyone know if the 1RZ or 2RZ will fit as a direct replacement to the 22R? Small block Chevs are a popular fit in some countries such a Australia, and a number of companies make gearbox adaptor bellhousings, and also sometime mounting kits. Google The Rod Shop in Castlemaine Victoria Australia, or also try Dello Bellhousings and adaptor kits.

I'm only 12 I don't know much but one engine I know fits is a 4.0 cyl v6 they will fit in any 70s to early 2000s Toyota pickup. If you are looking at a Toyota pickup I would go for a early 70s or a 85 to 2005 the 79 up to 84 have been known for the chassis to rust I hope you find this helpful

OK. I realize this q happened 10yrs ago. So don't know how 'this'works. 1st of all: 22r=22r The fact that it is a 4x4; is probably ur suspenion, trans, & the all other components that go along w/ 4x4. SO a 22r is a 22r.

1st of all, I believe it's 1981'-1989' that they ALL run the 22R or{22RE, 22RE-C for all u Californians. Both RE & RE-C are fuel injection hence the 'RE'. Just 22R stands for carbuerated. All these models have the same engines hence the 22 before the letters. Previous yrs, 80' if not 79’ and earlier run the 20r. Which is still compatible. I've seen it.
