What year did Rav4 stop having the extra tire in the back. I'm wanting to purchase an older model w/o the tire on the rear door.

Thank you. I'll look into it.

We had an '08 with that tire on the back door. Look at 2010 and up. But don't get the ones with the "no flat" or running flat or whatever those were called. Tires very expensive to buy. So...look at maybe '13.
I had a 2012 Rav4 with the spare on the back door. Some idiot made an illegal turn and totaled it. I am hunting for the newest Rav4 I can find that still has the spare on the back door. The newer Rav4s are SMALLER, and have less visibility. I wish Isuzu still make the Trooper like the one I used to have. It was even better than the Rav4. Unfortunately the socialist jerks at Consumer Reports ran them out of business.
According to Toyota the spare tire cover fits up to 2012 which means that is the last year for the rear mount spare tire. Run flat tires have a terrible ride. Better to use regular tires and carry a tire repair kit and a small compressor.
2012 was the last year with the tire on the back. The Fourth Generation redesign was introduced in the 2013 model year. Also some "sport" models did not have the spare tire and used run-flat tires instead, even before 2013.

Guess what? Good news for spare tire on the outside back door lovers. In 2020 Ford Bronco is returning.

I have a 2013 Limited no tire on back and a spare under the back deck cover. No run flats
