timing belt

I had my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 2.0L MFI DOHC 4cyl timing belt replaced two years ago at 101,000 miles, today at 111,000, I don't drive very much, the timing belt shredded. I have no other damage. The mechanic says it is because I accelerate too fast. Could he just be saying that to cover his behind since he was the one who installed it or could it be something else.

The belt would not go out that fast,what i think may have caused the belt to eat up as you say,would be a bad tentioner idler or rider idler went bad,and caused this,these should be checked when belt is replaced,and may have prevented this issue,you put 10000 mile,s on that belt,the idler,s were bad or if idler,s are good,he over tighten the belt.
