Could the difference on odometer be due to the transmission swap 2004 F150?

Asked by Corey Dec 05, 2021 at 07:18 PM about the Ford F-150

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I have the opportunity to buy a 2004 Ford F150 for 7900.  Unfortunately,
when I ran the carfax, it appears the digital odometer went back 35000 miles
at a certain point.  The truck also had the transmission swapped.  Could the
difference on the odometer be due to the transmission swap?

No. More likely had a cluster swap at some point. If a shop did it there should be a record somewhere. If it was backyard work then it won’t show anywhere.

On this year of rig if the speed sensor was disconnected it wouldn’t shift right and the check engine light would be on continuously. It also can’t be too far out of calibration or the truck just wouldn’t run right or shift right.

Maybe they swapped out the dash or instrument cluster, and now that module is out of sync with the ECM with regard to mileage.
