1999 mercury grand marquis been sitting for maybe two years has high pitched
whistle coming from the gas tank area it runs rough at idle but seems to be ok
at highway speed any ideas? vacuum leak?

Vapor purge solenoid, broken vacuum line, fuel cap not sealing.

Check for a broken, disconnected, or chewed up vacuum hose for the EVAP system. Especially if the vehicle was stored outside. Mice, rats, squirrels, and other rodents love to chew on vacuum hoses and wiring. Hope that helps!! Jim
