Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1999 Mercury Villager, replaced alternator but i need a jump every time i try to
crank. Lights are on, no clicking noise. Even after a jump if turned off after 30 mins needs
a rejump or bang on starter which doesn't always work

How old is the battery and have you had the battery load tested? Auto parts stores can test the battery for you. Alternator may be charging, but the battery may not be holding the charge.

If you have to tap on the starter sometimes to get it started you need a new starter.
The battery is barely a year but the starter completely went out yesterday. Now I have the problem of the car overheating but there is no thermostat present

If car is over heating and there is no thermostat you have one of the two problems first try cleaning your radiator and A.C condenser coil with a hose and nozzle or better yet a pressure washing. There maybe dirt and bugs in the coils causing little to no air flow across coils. Second thing try a Super Radiator And Cooling System Flush just follow directions on label hopefully it will clear out blockage or clog in cooling system. It either one works just install a new thermostat.
