5 speed. I have replaced the fuel filter and knock sensor. The only way I can keep it running at all now is
by removing the throttle position sensor and adjusting the idle air control. Disconnected the catalytic
converter in case it was clogged. That was not the problem. Now I have an extremely loud vehicle in
limp mode. Help?

I did the resistance checks sitting in a warm house and from what I can see, according to all the threads I have read, the tps is fubar. But I'm using a crappy meter as my good meter is in my work van 20 miles away. I can't get out to the car to check voltage readings to the sensor as it is about 10 degrees with a steady 25 mph wind and it's just not worth getting frost bite. So.....I will try to swap out the sensor with one from a vehicle I know is running fine to avoid paying for yet another sensor that may or may not solve the problem. I wish I still had my 65 Ford. No computers and I could just about sit in the engine compartment and close the hood to work on it. Thanks for your input Michael. I will try to keep you posted.
Ok. TPS reads fine as far as resistance is concerned. And like I said previously, the car is running without a tps and the IAC manipulated a bit. It was suggested by 2 Subaru mechanics that I 1. check the plugs for oil and/or misfiring 2. replace the forward O2 sensor, and 3. check for valve seat movement ( supposedly they can back out of the head for no apparent reason). All that being said, I'm in the market for cheap transportation. 2 out of the 3 suggestions are going to cost too many bucks to keep this heap running. I think I'll read it its last rites and call the junk yard. 225,000 is enough.
And now I'm the proud owner of a 1988 Isuzu Trooper II. Got a screaming deal on it. Just in time for a snow storm and I'm back on the road.
