Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a pretty bad oil leak in my 1992 Montero. The leak has been there since I started driving it in June of last year. I was told it is the oil cooler line. So I wonder, what exactly its function is and what its attached to?

It takes oil from the engine and runs it through a cooling unit. Just like radiator and engine coolent. Have a shop put new line on for you should only be like 60$

The steel lines between the motor and cooler can rust out and need to be replaced or bypassed. I just cut mine off And used a short piece of flex hose to make a u between the 2 steel Pipes , double clamped them on both ends . Run it for a while and recheck.clamps several times, even a week and 2 weeks later. heat will slightly soften hoses. I even put a slight flare on the end of steel pipes so hose won,t blow off. no sharp edges either. No room for error on this, catastrophic engine failure if you blow the oil out. Anyway worked great and temp gauge still in middle. IDon,t tow so its a option for me. Good luck!!
