Dark fluid is not a good sign. Does it smell burnt as well? If it does that's even worse. Unless you're an experienced mechanic your car needs to visit a transmission shop. If the car is a high miler start looking around for a used one to put in. If its low miles and you intend to keep it for a while it might be worth rebuilding, And if the car's near the end of its life start looking for another car. This could cost you 2 or 3 thousand dollars so the car may not be worth it.
