Electrical / sensor issue?

Asked by Shain77 May 19, 2016 at 10:15 AM about the Pontiac Montana

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my 2000 Pontiac Montana has an issue. Driving along, the RPM will
fluctuate, and the message centre will show the "change engine oil" msg and
sometimes the red battery symbol.  this happens most often at hiway speeds,
and is making travel both annoying, and sometimes scary. Can anyone give
me some direction on this?

have the battery check 12.6 volts and loaded tested. Check alternator output at battery terminals vehicle running 13.2-14.8 volts Ok inspect all ground cables / straps. Finally, Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down.
