Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Pontiac Montana SV6. The starter just died and needs to be replaced. It seems there is very little room between the starter and the oil filter. Is it possible to remove starter without draining the oil and removing oil filter?

Also if you would like the extra room you can remove the filter without draining the oil. You will basically only lose the oil that is in the filter. Then when your done you can put the same or a new filter back on and top up your oil depending on if your due for an oil change or not. When I do the oil change on any vehicle I always take the filter off first that way I don't drop it into the drain bucket full of oil and splash it all over the place making a mess.

I just replaced a starter in a 2007 Montana. I unbolted the starter and then dropped it down enough for access to the wires. When I installed the new 1 I put the wires on first. It worked well.
